Boys

Shortchanged girls are a tired myth.

For more than 20 years girls have benefited from numerous federal, state, school district, and foundation programs aimed at supposed under achievement of girls in mathematics and science. Congress has appropriated as much as 10 million annually to fund the Women's Educational Equity Act. Marginal advantages in science and math for boys pale compared to the advantages enjoy by girls in school. Shortchanged girls are a tired myth. The few programs that do exist for boys continue to go unfunded while the achievement gap continues to grow. Girls get help. Boys get Ritalin.

Society and policy makers have ignored boys issues for more than 20 years. The result of that is:

High rates of functional illiteracy.
High suicide rates.
High drop out rates.
High rate of premature death.
High arrest rate.
Lower grades.
Low writing level.
Low reading level.

Girls have the same issues. However; boys suffer these issues at a much higher rate.

The US Department of Education is responsible for our Boys Crisis  because of their discriminatory conduct. Unless men do something about it this conduct will continue.

Ritalin is Cocaine for kids.

Like cocaine, Ritalin is a powerful stimulant that increases alertness and productivity. Ritalin and cocaine also look and act the same. Both have a similar chemical structure, and both increase dopamine levels in the brain. They do this by blocking a dopamine transporter protein responsible for the reuptake of dopamine at the synapse.

The use of Ritalin increased exponentially over the course of the 1990's, from 75 million daily doses in 1990 to 360 million in 1998, in the U.S.A. alone. Worldwide production of Ritalin: 8.5 tons per annum.  Because Ritalin is internationally controlled, this is a quota, and therefore, is probably equal to the expected consumption. The U.S. uses approximately 85% of this total.  Round this down to 80% to account for non-ADHD uses of Ritalin such as for treatment of narcolepsy.  Thus, the usage by the U.S. for ADHD is 6.8 tons per annum.

Ritalin is currently prescribed to approximately twelve million people in the US. 75% of these are, 6-to-14-year-olds, with boys receiving Ritalin about four times more often than girls. 30-50% of adolescents in drug treatment centers report abusing Ritalin.

According to a new study released online August 17, 2010 and published in the Journal of Health Economics. Nearly 900,000 children under age 18 may have been misdiagnosed with an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Not only is misdiagnosis of ADHD in young children a potential danger to their health, but it also costs parents, insurance companies and Medicaid millions of dollars each year in unnecessary medication.

"When a drug is prescribed because one person is bothering another -- a disruptive child upsetting a teacher, for example -- there is clearly a danger that the drug will be abused. That danger only increases when the problem being treated is so vaguely defined." Dr. Richard Bromfield

The Secret Sin.

In 2006, the National Education Association released data on male and female teachers. Men accounted for less than 25 percent of all teachers in United States public schools.

The US Department of Education has stated that 85% of teacher sexual abuse is done by male teachers. That is far from the thruth.

One in six adult men reported being sexually molested as children, and — in a surprise finding — nearly 40 percent of the perpetrators were female, a new study found. (Source Link)

In studies that ask students about offenders, sex differences are less than in adult reports. The 2000 AAUW data indicate that 57.2 percent of all students report a male offender and 42.4 percent a female offender with the Cameron et al. study reporting nearly identical proportions as the 2000 AAUW data (57 percent male offenders vs. 43 percent female offenders).. (Source .PDF Download) This study is ten years old.

Significant underreporting of sexual abuse of boys by women is believed to occur due to sex stereotyping, social denial, minimization of male victimization, and the relative lack of research on sexual abuse of boys.

Sexual victimization of boys by females is especially rarely researched or reported. In studies where students are asked about sex offenses, they report higher levels of female sex offenders than found in adult reports. This underreporting has been attributed to cultural denial of female-perpetrated child sex abuse.

Males have been socialized to believe they should be flattered or appreciative of sexual interest from a female. Female sexual abuse of males is often seen as 'desirable' and/or beneficial by judges and other authorities.

Is it any wonder why boys are having problems in school and in general? I think if fathers walked in their son's shoes for one week they would become better fathers. These boys need our help. Robert Dean
